Description
30th Anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag
2025 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag being officially proclaimed as a Flag of Australia.
Designed by the late Bernard Narnok in 1992, the flag holds deep cultural and historical significance for Torres Strait Islander people.
Its elements reflect their identity: green for land, blue for seas and black for the people. While the traditional Dhari headdress and the five pointed star as the centre of the flag symbolise cultural heritage and island groups.
