The Perth Mint has released this exclusive Beijing International Coin Exposition - Australian Koala with Panda Privy 2025 1oz Silver Coin in Card to celebrate two iconic animals native to Australia and China.

The koala holds a uniquely tender place in the hearts of Australians. As noted in The Wild Animals of Australasia (1926), no other native creature has captured public affection quite like the koala, whose appeal is attributed to its “innocent, babyish expression and quiet and inoffensive ways.” Clinging to the trunk of a gum tree, the beloved marsupial in the design features a cherubic face of a forever charming koala.

Recognized by its striking black-and-white coat, the giant panda is a bear species native to China and revered as a national treasure. Loved across the globe, pandas are more than symbols of cuteness—they’ve long served as ambassadors, fostering goodwill and connection between nations.

The coin portrays an adorable koala climbing a gum tree looking out over its natural habitat. As well as the inscription ‘KOALA’. The reverse also includes a coloured privy of a panda holding onto a bamboo pole.

The coin is presented in an auspiciously coloured display card featuring both iconic animals, the panda holding on to the eucalyptus brunch and the koala holding on to the bamboo pole, signifying friendship between the two animals
