Description
In recognition of those who served their country in five major international conflicts of the 20th Century, The Perth Mint has released the Australians at War Coin and Medallion Tribute Series. This significant project has been developed over a two-year period with the support and co-operation of the Australian War Memorial, the Commonwealth Departments of Veterans' Affairs and Defence, and the Returned
& Services League of Australia.
No more than 2,500 Complete Collections, comprising the five silver privy mark coins, five miniature replica service medals and five remarkable medallions in the series, will be released by The Perth Mint.
At the heart of this magnificent series are five 2003 Australian Kookaburra coins struck from two ounces of 99.9% pure silver in specimen quality.
Contains 5 x 2oz silver coins and 5 x 1oz silver medallions
Each coin features a striking depiction of a kookaburra, as well as a coloured privy mark representation of a service medal awarded to personnel who served their country during either:
. The Boer War ~ Queen's South Africa Medal
. World War I ~ Victory Medal 1914-1919
. World War II ~ Australia Service Medal 1939-1945
. The Korean War ~ Korea Medal
. The Vietnam War ~ Vietnam Medal
The obverse of each coin bears Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination of $2.
The series also includes miniature replicas of the five service medals and five medallions struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Featuring images of people and scenes associated with one of the five conflicts on the reverse, the medallions bear the Commonwealth Department of Veterans' Affairs' official Australians at War emblem on the obverse.
Handmade Presentation Box Complete Collections, comprising all five coins in the Australians at War Coin and Medallion Tribute Series and their corresponding service medals and medallions, are presented in a handmade, blue presentation box featuring the official Australians at War emblem on the lid, with a replica of the Australian Army's 'Rising Sun' badge on the edge.
An informative 12-page serial-numbered booklet, which includes a foreword by the Australian Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Hon. Danna Vale MP, accompanies each Complete Collection.
