Description
The Perth Mint is pleased to present a beautifully crafted silver proof coloured coin, celebrating the Year of the Horse.
According to Chinese tradition, the emperor ordered a great race between all the animals on Earth to determine who should occupy 12 positions in the lunar calendar. In pursuit of the fifth placed dragon, the free-spirited horse galloped towards the finish line with determination. In a sudden twist, the horse was cheated by the snake which was wrapped around its hoof, causing it to lurch back in fright. Despite the setback, the resilient horse claimed seventh place.
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Horse in 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990 and every 12th preceding year are said to be independent, charismatic and love a sense of adventure. Being passionate and spirited, they are gifted with natural charm and an ability to inspire others.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 6,000 of the Australian Lunar Series III 2026 Year of the Horse 1oz Silver Proof Coloured Coin in this packaging out of a mintage of 7,500.
The coin’s reverse portrays a coloured representation of a majestic mare alongside her young foal, both depicted with elegant manes in a striking galloping stance. The background includes an image of mountainous landscapes and grassland. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Horse’, the inscription HORSE 2026.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, each coin is presented in a prestigious black display case with a geometric design on its magnetic lid. The case is packaged in an illustrated shipper featuring a horse. When arrayed with other shippers from the series, the resulting diorama depicts all 12 animals that successfully completed the Great Race.
