2022 Mini Kookaburra 1/2gram (0.5g) Gold Frosted Uncirculated Coin

The Royal Australian Mint’s Mini Money gold coin series will feature a selection of Australia’s iconic native animals.

The Kookaburra, one of Australia’s most recognisable and distinctive birds, is presented on the second coin.

Kookaburras can be found throughout eastern Australia, from Queensland to South Australia, and have been widely introduced into Tasmania, Western Australia and even New Zealand.

The Kookaburra is a large kingfisher bird, but unlike other kingfishers, the kookaburra rarely eats fish. With an estimated population of 65 million, kookaburra’s can be typically found in eucalyptus forest and woodlands throughout Australia as well as in urban parks, gardens and backyards.

This intriguing bird is an icon of Australia, featured in films, books, and music such as the well-known song Kookaburra [sits in the old gumtree], which is sung by generations of Australian children. 

The kookaburra features on the Royal Australian Mint’s Mini Money series of gold coins depicting iconic native animals.

This $5 coin contains a half gram of 99.99 percent gold, packaged in an attractive presentation capsule.

Production is limited to just 5000 units.

The coin is legal tender and features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on one side and, on the reverse, a highly detailed design of kookaburra perched on a textured branch.
