Description

A chestnut-coloured layer hen proudly displays her four eggs on this cheery coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Australia. The humble layer hen is responsible for the excitement of little (and big) kids around Australia who rush to see how many eggs have been laid, awaiting collection.

The Royal Australian Mint has partnered with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the organisation’s work in Australia. Founded in London in 1824 and then in Australia in 1871, the RSPCA works to protect all animals from cruelty.

An independent charity, the organisation relies on community support to run animal rehoming shelters, investigate complaints of animal cruelty and educate the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

The RSPCA promotes the welfare of all animals. In fact, its moniker is “for all creatures, great and small”.

The layer hen coin recognises the importance of this humble creature that is equally at home on the farm or in a suburban garden.

A dollar from the sale of every layer hen coin will go to the RSPCA to help them continue their important work.

Each layer hen coin includes the following features:

  • Unique, colourful design
  • Limited mintage of 22,500
  • Uncirculated finish
