Description

The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to present this stamp and coin cover to celebrate Chinese New Year.

As powerful icons of good fortune, oriental dragons play an integral role in Chinese New Year celebrations.

Issued as Tuvlau legal tender, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.

The reverse of the coin features a dragon with a depiction of the flaming pearl. Dragons are often portrayed pursuing this metaphor for wisdom and enlightenment in fine art, and the imagery is recreated in the popular Chinese New Year dragon dances. These colourful and energetic performances, traditional representations of welcoming good fortune into a community, often include a performer holding a rod with a coloured sphere representing the pearl which is ‘chased’ by the dragon.

Affixed to the envelope are the official Australia Post $1.00 and $3.00 stamps. The stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity.
