Description

The Perth Mint has released the Second of five Gold Plated coins featuring designs inspired by the historic figures represented on Australia's original decimal currency notes. Each 2006-dated coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality and is finished in 99.9% gold plating. The coins have a very limited mintage of only 1,000. The coloured reverse of each coin depicts historic figures as they were depicted on decimal currency notes issued between 1966 and 1974. The second coin released features John Macarthur, who contributed to the development of the wool industry and William Farrer, who played a major role in developing disease resistant wheat. Australia's first $2 note featured the image of Macarthur on the front and the image of Farrer on the back.
