Description

This commemorative coin pays tribute to Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, Australia's greatest aviator, who disappeared 75 years ago over the Andaman Sea.

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality. The coin's reverse portrays coloured representations of "Smithy" and Southern Cross, the Fokker Trimotor he piloted during the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia in 1928. With many great flying feats to his name, Kingsford Smith and co-pilot Tommy Pethybridge vanished near Burma in November 1935 while attempting to break the England-Australia speed record.

Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.

No more than 5,000 coins will be released worldwide.

Each coin is housed in a timber presentation case accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
