Description

Australia's first national stamp issue had a troubled beginning.

A decade after the federation of Australia's six colonies, the Postmaster-General's Department sought designs to grace the new nation's first stamps. These stamps would in time replace Australia's colonial/State stamp issues which had been around since the mid 1800's.

After more than a year of submissions and political debate, the Kangaroo and Map postage stamps were finally released in 1913.

The Royal Australian Mint has released this 50c uncirculated coin to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of this major event in Australia's history.

The card is presented in a blister and housed in a colour printed presentation card.
