Description

The Signing of the Treaty of Versailles effectively ended the First World War. This Moment also carried additional significance for Australia as a nation. As a signatory to the treaty, Australia was recognised as an independent nation under international law.

The Treaty of Versailles established peace after the First World War.

Thirty-two nations signed the treaty on 29 June 1919, in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles.

As the first political treaty signed by Australian officials, with Australia involved in the negotiations of its terms, this marked us as an independent nation under international law.

The Treaty of Versailles recognised a new status for Australia as a nation.

This Five Dollar Silver coin celebrates the centenary of this Historic event.

The coins designed is inspired by the 1919 Peace Medal - Triumph of Liberty & Justice, which was presented to Australian school children to mark the end of the First World War
