Rotary, the world's oldest and most prestigious service club, was founded in 1905 in Chicago. Today, it is a worldwide organisation of approximately 1.2 million business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of silver in proof quality, the centennial coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. It is housed with the Australia Post 50c stamp in fittingly prestigious presentation packaging. A strict limited release of just 7,500 Stamp & Coin Sets will ensure these officially sanctioned collectables are highly sought after.
Rotary's familiar symbol - a gear wheel with 24 cogs and six spokes - is depicted in blue and gold on the reverse of the coin together with the inscription A CENTURY OF SERVICE - A NEW CENTURY OF SUCCESS. The coin design, similar to the organisation's official centennial logo, also features a starburst background and a banner inscribed with the words 100 Years of Rotary above a band of stylised people holding hands. The coin's obverse bears Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination. The 50c Australia Post stamp depicts a three-dimensional representation of the Rotary wheel. The design also portrays a human figure supporting a vector drawing of a sphere, representing Rotary's commitment to improving the lives of people throughout the world through educational and humanitarian programs. The words Centenary of Rotary International 1905 - 2005 are included in the design.
The stamp and coin are housed in a prestigious timber presentation case featuring the Rotary International logo on the lid. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each set, which comes within a stylised shipper. The extremely limited availability of this Stamp & Coin Set, comprising Rotary's official centennial coin and a fully authorised Australia Post commemorative stamp, will make it especially interesting to collectors.
