Description
Chinese New Year is one of the most important celebrations and holidays for Chinese people. The festival is a time for families to reunite, to honour household and heavenly deities, as well as ancestors, and remains the most important social and economic holiday in China.
As powerful icons of good fortune, oriental dragons play an integral role in Chinese New Year celebrations
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Chinese New Year 1oz Silver Coin.
The reverse of the coin features a dragon with a depiction of the flaming pearl. Dragons are often portrayed pursuing this metaphor for wisdom and enlightenment in fine art, and the imagery is recreated in the popular Chinese New Year dragon dances. These colourful and energetic performances, traditional representations of welcoming good fortune into a community, often include a performer holding a rod with a coloured sphere representing the pearl which is ‘chased’ by the dragon.
The design also includes the Chinese characters for ‘Happy New Year’ on a stylised banner
The coin is housed in a clear latex display case with a black frame, packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity
