Description

This year the Royal Australian Mints Made to Order one dollar silver proof coin celebrates 100 years of Australian Coinage and features the original 1910 Australian Edward VII four silver coins. This is a special and fitting tribute to a significant milestone in Australia's numismatic history. The commencement of Australia's official currency was heralded by the arrival of the first silver coins from the London Mint in 1910. The first shipment consisted entirely of shillings and arrived in March 1910, with threepence, sixpence and florins arriving later in October. These coins undoubtedly represented a new chapter in Australia's history, but it wasn't only their role in the nation's growth that made them unique; all four denominations of the earliest coins bore an effigy of King Edward VII designed by George W de Saules on the obverse an original likeness different to that used on British coins of the time. These were the first and last Australian coins to do so.

The mintage of this special release is 4975 coins produced.
