Description
Four years have passed since Sydney hosted the Millennium Olympic Games. The Royal Australian Mint continues this tradition as the Australian team makes the journey from Sydney, to the site of the 2004 games in Athens.
The link between the two cities in the design featuring two iconic buildings, the Parthenon in Athens in the foreground, and the Sydney Opera House in the Background, is produced on the $5 silver proof coin.
The bridge between the cities is created in the holographic Australian Olympic logo.
This is the first time that the Australian Olympic logo is featured in this state of the art technique.
Reinforcing the colours of the Australian Team's participation the presentation case includes a silver laurel wreath, an ancient and traditional symbol of success.
This detail will attract the Olympic souvenir collector and offers a prestigious memento.
The $5 silver proof coin is minted from 99.9% pure silver and the total mintage is 17,500, individual coins 15,000 and 2,500 aspart of the three coin set. The printed outer box and numbered certificate complete the presentation. This coin is dated 2004.
