Description

The Perth Mint has released the latest gold release from The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series commemorating those who lost their lives on the Western Front during the First World War.

The poem In Flanders Fields was written by the Canadian poet, physician and soldier, Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae (1872-1918) in May 1915. It was first published by Punch magazine in Britain in December 1915 and within months it had become an enduring tribute to the sacrifices made by those fighting in the First World War.

Today In Flanders Fields is recited at memorial services commemorating the First World War, such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. The fist verse is one of the most popular and is often featured on tombstones and memorials.

The coin is struck from 2oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality and the Perth Mint will release no more than 100 of The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series – In Flanders Fields 2018 2oz Gold Proof High Relief Coin.

The coin’s reverse depicts a gravestone in a field of poppies with the first verse of In Flanders Fields written across it and the date 1918- 2018. The design includes a helmet and boots, two red poppies, four larks flying in the background

Each coin will be presented in a black and red themed display case featuring the words PRIDE, RESPECT, and GRATITUDE on the outside of the case, within a themed shipper, and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity
