Description

The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to present this stamp and coin cover celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Trans-Australian Railway.

The Trans-Australian Railway opened on 22 October 1917 after five years of arduous construction work across the Nullabor desert. The railway ran between Port Augusta in South Australia and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and provided nation-building infrastructure that not only linked the east and western coasts of Australia, but also provided the platform for successful negotiations to encourage Western Australia to join the Commonwealth of Australia and establish the Australian Federation.

The design on this uncirculated $1 coin portrays a representation of a train used on the Trans-Australian Railway.
